Little Geoffrey
Circa 1938
--In Memmorium to our first born son
who died in Cairo in December, 1937.

He lies among the Mamelukes
Little Geoffrey,
Little Geoffrey,
Born into this world too soon.
Breath at dawn, death at noon,
So fair of form, so fair of face,
Yet in this world there was no place
For little Geoffrey.

He sleeps among the Mamelukes,
Little Geoffrey,
Little Geoffrey,
A babe amid a warrior clan,
Who never grew to be a man,
Sleeping where the Khamseens blow,
And where the Nile will ever flow,
The pyramids will mark the place,
Of this child so full of grace,
Our little Geoffrey.
